Save Talamone Bay in Italy

Ask the local authorities to stop new developments at Talamone Bay, respecting and protecting the natural beauty and historic interest of the area.
		What's the problem  Talamone is a historic Tuscan village situated on a rocky promontory on the southern end of the Maremma Nature Reserve. The local authorities now plan to replace the existing facilities and infrastructure with a new marina.

		What's at risk The 500 metres of new jetty will damage the underwater meadows of Posidonia oceanica a type of seagrass fundamental for the life of the local ecosystem and for many species of fish. They are in danger off the entire Italian coastline, including Tuscany. The surrounding countryside will suffer from the devastation of this important stretch of coast, specially due to new road construction. The construction of large resorts, housing and storage facilities will have an enormous negative impact, while the increase in seafaring visitors may have a knock-on destabilizing effect on the Maremma Nature Reserve.
		What's the solution & who can make this happen now We are still in time to rethink the development of Talamone and to proceed in a way compatible with both the naturalistic and historic importance of the area. It is crucial, however, to intervene now while discussions at local level are going on. Once approved it will be much harder to block the new marina.  Read more about Talamone Take action now
